Directed by Paolo Genovese
Perfect Strangers (Perfetti Sconosciuti) is a narrative, and bitter ensemble comedy, which follows a group of old friends who meet for dinner. Genovese tackles a subject important to these times, when social media has entered into fragile territories and affects almost everyone’s lives. His film marks the rebirth of the “intelligent comedy.” The film was a critical and commercial success, winning the David di Donatello in the Best Film Category and grossing more than €16 million in Italy.
Seven friends gathered together for dinner decide to play a little game. Everyone has to leave their smartphone on the table and share any calls or texts they receive over the course of the evening with the entire group. They’re all good friends: what could possibly go wrong?
Naturally, as the ringtones start to sound, the evening spirals towards some major revelations, with embarrassment and recrimination for dessert.
NOTE: The film is in Italian with ENGLISH subtitles.
