Today was an excursion to the city of Genoa. We were given a guided tour of the city, which began at its ancient port “Il porto antico”. Still in use today we saw how the modern world of docked cruise ships, an Eataly store and Genoa’s aquarium existed alongside a medieval church and the gateway to the city from the days when Genoa was once an independent thriving maritime republic. The guide then took us inland, first stopping at the Church of San Lorenzo where, in the square, was a festival celebrating immigrants to Genoa and their South American culture. After, we were shown the Doge’s palace and Christopher Columbus’ house. After some free time for lunch, we got on the coach bus and returned to Casale.
