Piedmont travel log – day one

After arriving safe and sound, the coach bus took us from the airport to the Hotel Candiani, where we were welcomed in the courtyard with an aperitif. We then set out with a guide for a visit of the town. We saw the cathedral, the Piazza Mazzini and the Krumiri cookie shop where, daily, they make and sell fresh Krumiri cookies. The specific recipe is a secret (sold by the original owners to the current ones) but the cookies are unmistakable for their flavor and their look somewhat similar to the mustache of the first king of Italy, earning them the nickname “baffi del re’ “. Our first meal as a group was dinner at La Torre, where a nice Piedmontese Barbera wine complimented this evening’s menu:
Grilled onion with parmigiano ice cream
Risotto with gorgonzola cheese and peppers
Short ribs
And an apple tort for dessert
