Discover the Hidden Gems on the Streets of Venice
Sunday, May 9, 2021
11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Central Daylight Savings Time
Presented in English
Every visitor to Venice visits the Rialto Bridge and Piazza San Marco. But the city is also home to numerous hidden gems. On this tour, we’ll walk the narrow streets, intentionally avoiding the crowds, to discover some hidden places in the Castello and Cannaregio neighborhoods. And at the same time, we’ll discover a lot about the daily life of Venetians!
Alvise will show you the area around the hospital, the most beautiful piazza in Venice, where we’ll admire from the outside the Scuola Grande of San Marco and the unique Libreria Acqua Alta (high water bookshop), containing thousands of old and new books housed in an antique gondola, on bathtubs and hand carts. We’ll also walk through the narrowest street in Venice surrounded by the people of the area.
In addition, we’ll see the outside of the splendid Scala Contarini del Bovolo, a Renaissance spiral staircase!
Discover Venice through the eyes of a real Venetian!
My name is Alvise. It’s a very common name here in Venice, used by the Doges during the period of the Most Serene Republic of Venice. In English, it could be creatively translated as Elvis! I was born and raised in Venice and after I completed my studies in Art History and the Conservation of Cultural Heritage at the University of Venice, I decided to start on the path of becoming a professional tour guide.
I’ve had several work experiences abroad, both in Great Britain and the United States, over a period of two years. I’ve also worked as an actor in small roles in various films here in Venice. I’ve worked at events, art exhibitions and I also played for a semi-professional soccer team.
