Cicchetti, Vino & More —

Visit the “Buzzing” Rialto District of Venice with Sentieri and
Check Out Some Varieties of Venetian Finger Foods

Sunday, January 22, 2023 @ 11:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (c.t.)

We’ll start our walking tour in the heart of what had been the central bazaar linking Asia with Europe many centuries ago. Here, we’ll explore the area where Venetians had been selling their various goods throughout the ages.

We’ll go on to learn what a cicchetteria is, and why an osteria differs from a tavern or a trattoria. Later we’ll pop into a cicchetteria to explore the world of typical Venetian Cicchetti and finger food. We’ll also see the oldest tavern in existence on the island.

This experience will make you feel as if you’d lived in Venice 300 years ago and were a part of this high-spirited world. Be prepared — it might also make you very hungry!

Ciao! I’m Elena, born and raised in Venice. While working towards a degree in Art Conservation as well as Far Eastern studies, I began working as a docent at some of the major museums in Venice. Later I became a licensed tour guide in the city of Venice.
Because I love to travel and connect with people, I also work as a Rick Steves tour guide, escorting tours all over Italy by bus. This gives me an opportunity to travel and embrace culture, art, food, and nature, as well as develop a general love for our world.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge of history and try to make it accessible on many levels for an all-around better understanding of the subject at hand.
Among my many passions are outdoor activities. I enjoy kayaking and rowing through the canals of Venice — getting to know my island via water. And I’ve also dusted off my bike. The pandemic has pushed me to be willing to explore more and more, so my mini trips have infused me with new energy during these isolated times.
These developments have all been combined into a new way of guiding. Virtual tours are the new frontier of learning with a geographical distance and also with an authentic connection.
